YUM! AMBROSIA!
After reading several of Bruce Fife's books (and they were wonderfully easy-to-read for the non-scientific type), I decided to give coconut oil a try to help with losing weight and getting my blood sugar under control. As a non-medication taking, recently diagnosed diabetic, I want to try whatever natural remedies I can find to stay off insulin and other diabetes meds, in addition to meds for cholesterol, etc. I tried taking a teaspoon or two with meals and a teaspoon btw meals and my blood sugar numbers were noticeably lower the same day. (Fife says the suggested dose is 3-4 tbs/day). The taste of this brand is fantastic, light and creamy with a delicious coconutty taste! I love coconut so I was able to eat it right from the jar, but I also tried it spread on a Wasa Crisp bread--WOW, what an easy way to get MCFAs into your diet! I will definitely be using this instead of any oils for all my cooking needs (except a little EVOO mixed together with this for salad dressing.) Also, I'm...

Works Wonders for Black Hair
I've gone to wearing my hair "natural"--no chemical relaxers to straighten it. On advice from other African-American women who have also gone the natural route, I tried mixing coconut oil, unrefined shea butter, and aloe gel to use on my hair. The results are nothing short of miraculous! My hair is soft, shiny, and manageable. I use the braid-out/twist-out styling methods, and the resulting curls and spirals are absolutely beautiful. Also, I've read up on the health benefits of coconut oil, so I will definitely be experimenting with it in my cooking.

Best Tasting Coconut Oil I've Tried: Quality is A+
Nutiva's Organic coconut oil is the best I've found. I've tried several brands, but nothing tastes as clean and pure as this. There is a definite undertone of coconut, but I like the flavor, even when frying eggs or eating it on cinnamon raisin toast. I recently had bloodwork done and my HDL (the good cholesterol) was an impressive 77---anything over 39 is considered in range; over 50 is heart protective). I attribute this great HDL number to using only coconut oil, butter, and olive oil in my cooking & drinking green tea.Amazon's Subscribe & Save offer is a great deal; I really like the 2 pack of these smaller (15 oz) jars. We're a small household and I like keeping one jar sealed while using the other. Keep in mind that coconut oil is different than other oils--it is solid at temperatures under 72, so it will look something like shortening in the wintertime. Still tastes great and is wonderful to use in all kinds of cooking. One more important detail:...

amazingly delicious fresh coconut scent, beautiful white color, versatile, AND ORGANIC!
This is a marvelous product with some interesting health benefits (google it up). You can use it in baking, frying, in sauces, for vegan raw pies, mix with chocolate for puddings, moisturize your hair or skin, soothe rough elbows, etc. This melts really fast in a pan, so you don't need a high heat. I fry eggs in it, and the coconut taste is subtle. Any ethnic dish that requires sauteeing or saucing and can benefit from a fresh coconut flavor, this is useful. I've cooked meats in it, as well. If you hate the smell/taste of coconut, obviously, this is not for you. This brand, Nutiva, is organic and virgin. It smells so good. And I have an old jar that I never finished (really big one), and nearly two years later, after sitting right by the stove, it still smells fresh, like Cuban coconut candy my mom used to make. Yes, solid and fresh and white and fragrant TWO YEARS LATER. This is a very stable product.Recommended.

Great Product
I love the smell of this product. I have tried other coconut oils, and they are not the quality of Nutiva. You can use this for so many things. It is a great, light-weight moisturizer. I also love to put it on my hair. It adds a great taste to smoothies, and I have also used it to cook with. This is a very versatile product. I love it.

Customer Review

The BEST tasting coconut oil hands down!!
I have tried three different brands of coconut oil: Barlean's, Nutiva, and Tropical Traditions. The VIRGIN coconut oil has a nice, light coconut flavor. The EXPELLER pressed coconut oil has no flavor. So, if you a buying virgin coconut oil here's my tip: Barlean's had the best flavor and smell...I wanted to eat it right out of the jar it smelled so good, tasted phenomenal!! Barlean's was the most expensive of the three but for the flavor worth it. Nutiva was a close second in taste & smell and is more economical. Tropical Traditional (which I have always loved their products in the past) did not measure up in flavor. In fact it had a strange, burnt taste and smell...something was off about it. If you want no coconut flavor at all, get the expeller pressed coconut oil. It is less expensive than virgin coconut oil...all three companies use proper, healthy, non-chemical practices to extract the oil, so I would go with the best buy for the expeller cold pressed oil but pay a little more...

Awesome product
This product has several uses. My sister told me about coconut oil and I researched further. Not all coconut oils are the same. This one is great for me because I have used it to condition my hair as well as my skin. Also you can eat and cook with this product. It has the most delightful light natural coconut fragrance. It desolves quickly into the skin without oily residue. Fast absorbtion. Gentle too!

wonderful for your skin
I had read that organic coconut oil was good for healing skin yeast infections so I thought I'd try it. This is alot of coconut oil for the price!! It smells clean and like coconut ( of course!) It cleared up my minor infection within days. I use the oil all over now because it goes on smoothly and absorbs into the skin rather quickly. Don't leave it in the sun because the heat will warm it to liquid!

Island-Fresh, Organic, Pure Coconut Oil
Barlean's Organic Oils Extra Virgin Coconut Oil comes from the Philippine Island of Quezon, and is hand selected and harvested at the peak of flavor and nutritional value. It's also pressed and bottled on demand without chemicals.

Barlean's Coconut Oil is classified extra virgin, which means it's minimally processed, unrefined, and not deodorized with harsh solvents. It's also certified USDA Organic and backed by Barlean's 100-percent guarantee.

Rich in MCTs for Energy and Weight Control
A powerful source of nutrition, coconut oil is made up of special fatty acids called medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which make it unique among other fats. While we tend to think of triglycerides as bad, the medium-chain varieties are actually good for you. In fact, MCTs are widely used by high-endurance athletes because of their powerful energy-producing properties.

Coconut oil's high MCT count allows it to be metabolized as a carbohydrate to create immediate energy that can stimulate the entire body. Therefore, consuming coconut oil can help increase your metabolism and even help you lose weight.

Health Benefits of MCTs
The MCTs in Barlean's Coconut Oil--which include lauric acid, caprylic acid, and capric acid--have been reported to possess a wide variety of health benefits. Some studies show that they can increase HDL, the good cholesterol, which favorably affects the cholesterol ratio (the relationship between total and HDL cholesterol). Coconut oil can also boost your energy level, support a healthy immune system, and nourish skin and hair.

Take Internally or Apply Externally for Best Benefits
It's easy to incorporate Barlean's Extra Virgin Coconut Oil into your daily life. As a general guideline, use one tablespoon per 50 pounds of body weight per day, which equates to the amount of MCTs babies get daily from mother's milk. Much smaller amounts will still be beneficial. Great results can be experienced with just one tablespoon per day.

You can use coconut oil as a replacement for butter or oils in cooking and baking, or apply it externally to moisturize the skin and hair.

Superb oil for health
I've tried others, but Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is by far the tastiest and easiest to eat. I absolutely love it. I just eat it right out of the jar, several tablespoonfuls a day, for the health and weight loss benefits. I wholeheartedly recommend it.I've read through the reviews and just wanted to clarify some things with actual facts for those who are interested. Saturated fat, such as coconut oil, butter, lard, tallow, etc., is not only NOT harmful, but it is ESSENTIAL for good health and need not and should not be limited in quantity as the government suggests. It does NOT clog arteries--that is a lie that has been propagated for the last 60 years and thankfully there are finally practitioners with the courage and common sense to speak the truth. I am a dentist, intimately involved in nutrition, and I know what I'm talking about. The majority of coconut oil is medium chain triglycerides which are broken down quickly by the liver for...

Awesome for baking!
I've been using Nutiva Coconut oil for over a year now and I order in the 54-oz containers through Amazon. A friend turned me on to the benefits of coconut oil so I tried it out. I use it in stir-fry, curry and fried rice. It gives the food a very light coconut flavor. In my opinion, it is most suited to baking. I substitute coconut oil whenever the recipe calls for butter, vegetable oil (microwave the coconut oil to liquefy) or shortening. I've used it to bake cookies, muffins, bread, sweet dinner rolls, etc. Everything comes out moist and delicious, with no worry about trans fats. I definitely recommend this product.

Fresh, flavorful, and hexane-free
I've tried a few different brands of extra-virgin coconut oil, and for the most part I'm equally satisfied with them all. Despite the marketing hype, coconut oil brands within each category (virgin, refined, hydrogenated) are very similar. I should specify the qualities I look for in a coconut oil: I want a coconut oil with a rich coconut aroma and taste, maximum nutrition, and minimal processing. For these reasons, I always select an organic, extra-virgin, cold-pressed oil.I'm pleased that this Nutiva Organic Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil provides these qualities along with an easy-to-find "packed on" and "best before" date. The jars I ordered in late January 2011 were packed on September 13, 2010, and the "best before" date is September 13, 2012. Stored correctly (cool, dark location, no refrigeration needed), this nutrient-dense oil stays fresh for two years. It smells and tastes great--coconutty and slightly sweet.According to Nutiva, no hexane is used in the...

AWESOME COCONUT OIL! AWESOME DEAL!
Wow! I love this coconut oil! I have read about the wonders of coconut oil (increases metabolism, antiviral/antifungal/antibacterial properties, etc) and decided to start adding it to my daily diet. This brand is superb -- taste soooooo good and smells divine. I have used it on my toast and it could easily replace butter because the taste is buttery smooth and with very slight sweetness. The smell is not overwhelming and it's just very mild.Another plus is the price -- such a great deal for 32 ounces! I have looked around at different online and local stores for high quality coconut oil and the price cannot touch this, the only thing cheaper would be the low quality, rancid-smelling coconut oil being sold at local stores.Coconut oil will melt at 76 degrees, so I kept mine in the refrigerator to keep it solid. I've also used this as a moisturizer for my itchy and dry spots and works like a charm, easily melts when applied. I've divided mine for kitchen and body use --...

Excellent product: Nature's Way evco.
Efa Gold is indeed a superlative. The taste is yummy; not at all like putting a spoonful of regular oil, even Olive, in your mouth. The taste is slightly sweet and definitely coconut. I use it for my skin and hair and it's just amazing what it does, even to an 80 year old. I had to go for a 2nd haircut this month, my hair grew in so fast. I also cook with it. The only down side is that I use so much I needed to buy another 1/2 gallon inside of one month. Good coconut oil is expensive but it beats buying meds!!

Hard to find Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Some people use this as a cooking oil for high temps and also for eating raw. Well, I use it in massage therapy. This is a phenominal product and because it is cold pressed still has the scent of coconut. The aroma is not overwhelming and does not linger on the skin. Because this oil is solid at less than 76 degrees you have to warm it to liquify. To keep from becoming rancid, once open it should be kept in the refrigerator. It contains no preservatives. It will absolutely stain your linens as it is very thick. To remove spray PAM or other brand aerosol anti stick cooking spray on the stain. It will then launder right out. Just know that a soapy wash will not remove this. As a skin treatment Jarrow and Garden of Life are the premier coconut oil perveyors. A+. 2-3 oz is enough for one massage. I use a scale to weigh out for each client, which everyone should do to avoid cross contamination. Try.

Best oil in the planet after olive&fish&sesame&flax seed oil.
At one time coconut oil received negative press in the US because of its high level of saturated fat. However, modern research has shown that not all saturated fats are alike and that the fatty acids in coconut oil, the medium chain triglycerides, do not raise serum cholesterol or contribute to heart disease, but are in fact very healthy. Also, some negative studies done on coconut oil in the past was done on hydrogenated coconut oil, which has been altered from its original form. Other studies have clearly shown that traditional Asian cultures that eat significant amounts of coconut in their diet do not suffer from modern diseases seen in western cultures that promote a low-fat diet."Approximately 50% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid, which has the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the anti-viral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride...

Best tasting and consistently great
I have tried other coconut oils. They can taste funny. The Jarrow Extra Virgin tastes great, like a delicious light coconut flavor that adds a great boost to stir-fry, meats, even scrambled eggs taste terrific. The Jarrow regular coconut oil (not extra-virgin) is also nice but has no taste. I like this one best and will continue to buy it. Yum yum! Also makes a fun candy coating for bananas when mixed with unsweetened cocoa powder and a little cinnamon. Dip banana slices in the mixture and refrigerate until solid. Enjoy!
